Cohere Labs, the company's ML research lab (established June 2022 as "Cohere For AI", renamed "Cohere Labs" in April 2025), works toward "trustworthy, collaborative, and universally capable AI systems", states the aim of "Advancing AI safety to ensure ML innovation aligns with societal values", and does open-source safety research and multilingual research on underserved languages (Aya, 70+ languages). On the product side, Cohere runs adversarial testing of its own systems ("We simulate adversarial attacks on our systems to test for vulnerabilities and improve defenses") and a bug bounty.
