OBVIA
Québec's observatory on the societal impacts of AI and digital technology: 290+ research members across 23 Québec post-secondary institutions, created at the initiative of the Fonds de recherche du Québec, which renewed its mandate in 2023 for five years. Its research index names seven hubs (Arts, Media and Cultural Diversity; Digital Sobriety and Socio-Ecological Transition; Education and Empowerment; Ethics, Governance and Democracy; Industry 4.0, Work and Employment; Law, Cyberjustice and Cybersecurity; Sustainable Health), plus two expert clusters (AI and Education; Cybersecurity and Societal Impacts) and the Social Justice and Artificial Intelligence Chair. None is a safety, alignment or evaluation unit. Alongside the research it runs an advisory practice: ethical frameworks, workshops and risk briefings for Revenu Québec, SOQUIJ, the City of Montréal and the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications.
